This is one of the best cinnamon bun recipes that I have ever tried before. It's so fluffy, soft and chewy, and my whole family loved it. You can adjust the cinnamon buns to be bigger or smaller, so it fits your needs. Making medium sized buns will make 18 buns.
Time: 3 hours Serves: 18 Buns
Ingredients:
For the dough:
¾ cup milk
2 ¼ teaspoons yeast (you can use quick rise or active yeast for faster rising time)
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 egg and 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
¼ cup salted butter, melted
3 cups flour
For the filling:
1 cup dark/light brown sugar
1 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
¼ cup butter, softened
Directions:
Step 1
Warm the milk for around 40 - 50 seconds or until it reaches 110°F (43°C). Transfer the warm milk into a bowl and sprinkle yeast on top. Add in the sugar, the egg, the egg yolk and the melted butter. Afterwards, mix with an electric hand mixer (or an electrical mixer) until it's well combined. Then stir in the flour with a wooden spoon until a dough begins to form.
Step 2
Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes on a floured surface. The dough should form into a ball and be a little sticky. Move the kneaded dough ball to a well -oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap and a towel. Allow the dough to rise for 1 - 1 ½ hours, or until it's doubled in size.
Step 3
Once the dough has doubled in size, transfer the dough to a well-floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle (make sure that the dough isn't too thick or too thin). Spread the softened butter over dough making sure that everywhere is fully covered.
Step 4
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the dough, and then rub the mixture into the butter.
Step 5
Tightly roll up the dough, starting from the shorter side.
Step 6
Cut the rolled up dough into smaller pieces. I cut mine into 0.7 inch (1.7 cm) sections
Step 7
Place the cinnamon buns in an oiled baking pan. Cover with plastic wrap and a towel and allow it to rise again for about 30-40 minutes.
Step 8
Preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C). Remove the plastic wrap and towel from the baking tray and bake the cinnamon buns for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown on the edges. Allow them to cool for 5-8 minutes before eating. It's best served if warm. Enjoy!
