A brick of butter

Browning the Butter

In this updated recipe, we added an extra step to further enhance the flavor by browning the butter, which not only elevates the taste but also adds a richness to the dish. Browning butter, a technique that involves cooking the butter until it turns to a golden brown color is an easy yet effective way to introduce a layer of richness and complexity to your desserts.

Sifting Flour

Spooning and Sifting the flour

Flour is something that is quite easy to measure incorrectly because of how easy it is to pack. In this recipe, we have specified sifting the flour before spooning it into your measuring cup to ensure consistent results, that has a light texture.

Adding Sour Cream or Yogurt

By adding sour cream or yogurt, it gives the banana bread a moist and dense texture.

UPDATED - Banana Bread Recipe

Time: 1 hr 45 min Serves: 8 people

Banana Bread

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups of flour, spooned and sifted

  2. 1/4 cup white sugar (plus more for the top)

  3. 1/4 packed cup brown sugar

  4. 2 tsp baking powder

  5. 180g of unsalted butter, browned

  6. 2 eggs

  7. 1 cup of mashed ripe banana (~3 medium sized bananas)

  8. 2 tsp vanilla extract

  9. 3 tbsp of sour cream or Greek yogurt

  10. 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1

Brown the butter in a small saucepan on medium-low heat until it reaches a golden brown color. Set aside to cool.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a loaf pan.

Step 3

With a handheld whisk, whisk the mashed bananas, sugars, salt, vanilla, and sour cream until fully incorporated. Then, sift in the flour and baking powder and mix it in. The batter should be the consistency of a thick cake batter.

Step 4

Pour the batter into the greased pan and sprinkle some sugar on top for a crunchy exterior (optional). Bake in the oven for 1 hour, or until a tooth pick is poked inside and it comes out clean.

Step 5

Allow to cool, serve and enjoy!
